Janet Jagan - “The Alligator Ferry Service and other Stories From Guyana”

“The Alligator Ferry Service and other Stories From Guyana” is a 32 page full colour book, collection of stories, written by Janet Jagan, which will delight children all over the world and give them a sense of the magical beauty of Guyana's (South America) landscape and the humanity of its people. You will meet an enterprising alligator who sets up a ferry service, a hummingbird who saves the lives of the mighty Harpy Eagle's babies, a haughty green cat, Rima, a singing sea-bird, an animal fashion show and many, many more interesting animal characters.

Set in Guyana, these stories of brave, ingenious, kindly and sometimes playful animals and children use humour, mystery and excitement to provide a strong framework of positive human values. A new Canadian illustrator, Elizabeth Burke whose illustrations are so real to life that they bring these exotic animals to life for children, illustrates the stories.  Price: $12.99 Canadian (in Canada please add 7% GST + $4.00 ; in USA please add US$6.00(airmail) and all others US$8.00(airmail) or US$6 (surface) for shipping and handling.)

In 1953, just after 133 days in office, his government was deposed by the British colonialists.   Cheddi Jagan -The West on Trial , My Fight for Guyana’s Freedom

West_-web.gif (8024 bytes)Dr. Cheddi Jagan  was democratically elected to govern in 1953, 1957, 1961 and again in 1992 when he became Guyana’s first freely elected President. In 1953, just after 133 days in office, his government was deposed by the British colonialists, and again in 1964 by electoral machinations and destabilization carried out by a combined operation of opposition forces and the CIA. His struggles and ideas are clearly captured in this autobiographical work. There is a new epilogue written just before his death in March 1997. It is a virtual textbook of the anti-colonial struggle and necessary reading material for anyone wanting to understand the history of Guyana and any developing country.  Price: $25.00 Canadian (in Canada please add 7% GST + $8.00; in USA  add US$12.00 and for all others US$12.00 (surface) for shipping and handling.)

These speeches delivered at various fora between November 1992 and June 1994, testify to his integrity of vision and his eloquent concern for the potential as well as the plight of the Guyanese people over forty years of political action. There is constant emphasis on the virtues of democracy, human rights, and transparent and honest government. Its message is important not only for the Caribbean but also for the Third World as a whole.  Price: $15.00 Canadian(in Canada please add 7% GST + $4.00 ; in USA please add US$6.00(airmail) and all others US$8.00(airmail) or US$6 (surface) for shipping and handling.)

Cheddi Jagan - My Fight For Guyana’s Freedom- with reflections on my father by Nadira Jagan-Brancier

My_-web.gif (12108 bytes)This is an abridged and illustrated version of Cheddi Jagan’s autobiography "The West On Trial." It has been put together by his daughter Nadira Jagan-Brancier who wanted to give a close up view of her father’s personal life. While the text is generally the same as the original, she has trimmed off some sections which deal with in-depth discussions of ideological issues, and added sections from his other writings pertaining to his life and beliefs. The over 350 photographs included in this publication are used to illustrate the text. Alongside each photo are quotes by Cheddi Jagan, tributes to Cheddi Jagan or reflections on him by his daughter. Price: $45.00 Canadian (in Canada please add 7% GST + $10.00 in USA add US$12.00 and for all other US$12(surface) for shipping and handling.)

Cheddi Jagan - The USA in South America

US-web.gif (8068 bytes)The volume contains five papers by Dr. Jagan published between 1968 –1986. Three of these essays outline Dr. Jagan’s views of the threat that the American military – industrial complex - posed to the stability and security of the Hemisphere, in the Cold War era. The paper on "Theory of Vital Interests and Security Zones" is conceptually the centerpiece of the work. The other papers may be viewed as applications in practice of the Western world’s theory. Thus Guyana /Caribbean/Central America is dealt with, and the wider international, non-aligned world. The essays are very much a product of their time. Much has changed since they were written in ways that would have defied prediction, even to the most visionary. While they are a useful testament to history, they are also full of optimism, far beyond any reasonable expectation, strangely insightful of what lies ahead in the future. Price:  $18.00 Canadian (in Canada please add 7% GST + $5.00 ; in USA please add US$6.00(airmail) and all others US$6 (surface) for shipping and handling.)
